TURNING POINT
Syrian Television, Damascus
The documentary film about four Syrian girl teenagers is a real jewel of courage and surprise. They tell us about their difficulties facing the physical and psychological changes they are going through. How they find their way and role model – interacting with each other, the other gender, their families, schools and society. The film opens our eyes: How different these girls are in their common culture and how common their problems are in this phase of transition.

A SPECIAL TOUR
Canal Encuentro, Buenos Aires
Each young person has a gift, a personality and a point-of-view. This program features a young person with a distinct vision and purpose to achieve, despite circumstances that would be seen as a barrier by others. The beautiful production highlights the youth’s strength of character and spirit in the face of challenges and shows an individual who has created his own next step to follow. It is a wonderful example of how young people with  disabilities can be presented with complex identities highlighting their talents, personality and inspiration, instead of just stereotypes.

THE GRUFFALO
Magic Light Pictures, London
The children’s book this film was made after is well-known in Germany. The film is beautifully made, exciting and fun at the same time, and wonderfully rich in details. A clever little mouse proves that it’s not about size, but intelligence and courage. It even outplays a fox, an owl, a snake, and last but not least the Gruffalo.

7-11 Non-Fiction

THE SHRINKS
Rival Media Limited, Surrey
Children and grown-ups change place in this unusual and funny series. For once, children are the experts here. A grown-up needs a makeover, and the kids give advice and set tasks for him to complete. In this episode it is the old-fashioned headmaster Pat, who completes his tasks with lots of courage and a good sense of humour, and becomes a much “cooler dude”. The kids’ way of problem solving is original and fun, also it is clear that the successful makeover is permanent.
