TICFF unveils For Us, No Planet B coproduction project

TICFF and PRIX JEUNESSE Partner to Unveil For Us, No Planet B in Taiwan

A report by Yuan Lu, TICFF Event Coordinator

Organized by Public Television Service (PTS), the Taiwan International Children’s Film Festival (TICFF) has entered its 12th edition. On the 26th June, TICFF hosted the “TICFF × PRIX JEUNESSE – Global Co-production Launch Press Conference”, showcasing international collaboration in children’s content, innovative applications, and vibrant industry exchange.

Since its founding in 2004, TICFF has been Asia’s first and largest biennial film festival dedicated to children under 12. This year’s programming focused on two globally urgent issues: AI innovation and sustainability. From June 20 to 25, the festival invited Dr. Maya Goetz and seven international filmmakers to Taiwan for “We Have the Right to a Future Workshop,” “TICFF International Forum,” and “International Panel,” engaging audiences in dialogue on new works and exploring the future of children’s media in Taiwan.

At the press conference, the international co-production project For Us, No Planet B was unveiled in Taiwan for the first time. The project uses media to promote environmental literacy education and is made freely available under open licensing, aiming to create a platform for diverse and meaningful dialogue.

For Us, No Planet B, initiated by the PRIX JEUNESSE, includes 13 children’s media projects across four goals: Knowing, Explore, Daily Choices, Take Actions, giving children a collective voice for the Earth. Sustainable lifestyle advocate and Golden Bell-winning actress Patty Lee (event ambassador) emphasized: “Today’s society is abundant in material wealth, yet many important values are not being shared or passed down. As the middle generation, it’s our responsibility to raise awareness of critical global issues.” She added: “When it comes to environmental challenges, we all experience heatwaves and harsh winters together. By practicing a lifestyle of ‘no waste’ and exploring the world firsthand, we can truly learn to care for our planet.”

This summer, the 2025 TICFF Online Film Festival kicks off, featuring more than 30 award-winning films from around the world. Alongside this, international co-production programmes like WeMe’s Nature World are available for streaming on PTS+, allowing families to enjoy global stories without time or space limitations. Lee praised the co-production results, saying: “For Us, No Planet B is far more diverse and international than I had imagined! Watching films in different languages is a special experience, and I personally loved discovering cultures through these works.” PTS Foundation Chairman Yuan-Hui Hu stated:

“This co-production is truly significant. Our core belief is: children are not only audiences, but active participants shaping the future. Collaborating with more than 20 countries, we built trust and shared resources among public broadcasters worldwide. Through this process, we hope children will gain new international perspectives.”

Dr. Maya Goetz, Chair of the PRIX JEUNESSE, remarked: “I am very glad to create this opportunity for sustainable development together. It is an honor to see this project come true after three years of effort. Exchanges like this nourish all of us.” Lee further applauded TICFF and PRIX JEUNESSE as being “incredibly insightful,” noting how carefully crafted works communicate complex environmental messages to children. She also shared her own sustainable practices, such as not using air conditioning for over a month during the summer, and encouraged kids to avoid wasting food. She continues to promote minimalism and sustainability with fellow artists.

The press conference also premiered a retrospective film documenting the international exchanges and trend discussions from this year’s series of events. These initiatives examined how children’s content has evolved over the decades, while introducing global perspectives. Filmmakers and the “PTS XS” team presented innovative practices, bringing international co-production workshops directly into schools to foster dialogue and hands-on experience.
