PRIX JEUNESSE Visits Cuba
On May 30th and 31st 2016, a PRIX JEUNESSE Suitcase workshop was held in the city of Pinar del Rio the first Cuban regional workshop on children and communication. 25 radio and TV producers from several provinces (Pinar del Rio, Mayabeque and Havana) gathered to talk, screen and debate about diversity in children’s communication, celebrating the 70th anniversary of UNICEF and 25th anniversary of the ratification of Children’s Right Convention and facing Cuban sustainable development emergencies.
Taking into account the necessity of improving children’s contents, the workshop had the main goal to train producers in regard to content creation and production, and, at the same time, stimulate their awareness of their regional work peculiarities, their children’s specific communication needs, their own strengths and weaknesses.
Another aim was to facilitate synergies between producers, to be able to offer media for the young ones that promotes their social participation, making them resilient, assertive and proactive Cuban young people.
The screenings of PRIX JEUNESSE programmes were mixed with theory based presentations and group projection work. Programmes came both from the Munich-based PRIX JEUNESSE INTERNATIONAL festival as well as from PRIX JEUNESSE IBEROAMERICANO, offering a great mix of cultural diversity and topics.
The mix of content in the programmes helped prompting debates and making participants reflect about their own productions. They also discussed concepts according to the Cuban main development objectives, for stimulating further solutions and making decisions committed to regional needs, research based production and open-minded ways towards topics from the point of view of children
But one of the priceless moments in the workshop was the Guessing games screening, which became the joyful and happiest challenge to learn and grow in regard to children’s quality communication.
