International Co-production Series “The Day I Became Strong”
A 5-minute live action format to foster resilience. Produced as an international share pool project. A cooperation between the PRIX JEUNESSE Foundation, the IZI and the Goethe-Institute.
A girl in Germany desires to pick cherries from the peak of a huge cherry tree. A boy in Egypt feels neglected after his baby brother is born. For children these are moments in which they discover how strong they really are, moments that promote their resilience and self-confidence. The Day I Became Strong is based on a world wide study on storytelling and resilience, and on a curriculum to foster resilience. Out of 1,000 stories from more than 50 countries, typical strong stories of girls and boys were chosen in which they describe how they have mastered challenges. Based on these stories an international coproduction series titled “The Day I Became Strong” was developed, so far involving 17 countries worldwide. Each story is based on an authentic experience of a child. It is dramatized in a way that it fosters a specific aspect of resilience, mental health and intercultural sensibility.
Research has shown that children between 7 and 11 years are strongly attracted by the films and feel empowered. Especially in challenging and difficult times children need resilience.
