PRIX JEUNESSE INTERNATIONAL Art Contest 2024: Children Draw Eco-Messages to the World

“For Us, No Planet B: My Eco Message to the World!” was the theme of the PRIX JEUNESSE INTERNATIONAL Art Contest 2024. We had sent this call out to children and teenagers worldwide, inviting them to participate in this year’s competition. The task was to draw and create artworks that relate to the current climate crisis and environmental topics and to express a message to politicians, grown-ups and the world.

The response we got was impressive: 165 artworks came in from 12 countries around the globe – among others, from Taiwan, Mongolia, Portugal or Cuba. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome, both in numbers and in the impressive quality of the paintings!

The ideas and perspectives of the art works are very diverse, as were the children’s creative methods. As an addition to the pictures, the children also described the messages they wanted to convey. For example, 5-year-old Chen from Taiwan said: “Earth is my home; it gives me sunlight, warmth. It’s also everybody’s home. I love my home; I love Earth.” 8-year-old Lili from Armenia states: “I drew a girl with three eyes, who can see and feel nature like me. […] But in fact trees, clouds and the sun have senses and feelings. They can see and feel pain and sadness just like us. People harm and hurt nature. If we don’t have nature, we will not be able to live on earth”. Surenkhorloo, 16, from Mongolia explains: “We’re hunting down exotic animals just to use them for house décor. We’re wasting precious water as if it will never end. We’re limiting the environment for children to study and learn. Children are aiming to stop humanity from wasting away these precious resources.”

We categorized the art works of the children and young people into three age groups: 4 to 7 years, 8 to 12 years and 13 to 18 years old. Now an international online jury will judge the creations and choose the very best, which will then be displayed at the festival site at the PRIX JEUNESSE INTERNATIONAL festival week in Munich, Germany (24 – 29 May).

The PRIX JEUNESSE INTERNATIONAL Art Contest always relates to the festival’s theme, which in 2024 is “For Us, No Planet B!: Kids TV and Sustainability”.
